Beat Google at their own game…scan your own library automatically

I have a whole lot of books. I don’t want to get rid of them, but the extra space would be very handy, that’s for certain. So maybe I should take a tip from this Japanese fella, who decided to build his own fully automated book-scanning system out of a laptop, a flatbed scanner and a whole lot of Lego parts.

(Linked page is a translation from Japanese, so the English is a little quirky).

The cheeky chap has published the idea under a GNU open-source licence, also! All parts are generic off-the-shelf items that the public can get hold of…brilliant! That Google, they think they’re so smart. This guy is a *real* innovator! Though he can probably expect some nasty emails from publishers in the next few weeks. ;)
