I’m no fan of war in general, especially not the ongoing ‘liberation’ going on in the Middle East. But I *am* a real sucker for futuristic technology, even for military applications. Which is why my eye was caught by this article about the US military’s new toy, the femtosecond laser. Rapid and incredibly short pulses of laser light produce an ionised channel in the air, which is then used to conduct bolts of electricity toward a target. Pretty useful for bomb ‘neutralization’, apparently.
