Here’s a picture showing the view from the seafront here in Velcro City today:
That landscape on the far horizon is the Isle of Wight; as you can see, the weather today was very autumnal. I was attending a course in an old historical building down by the seafront today, and nipped out at lunch to grab this shot. I didn’t stay outside long – cold and windy.
Not much to report this week, and I’m not in a very “tell the world about it” mood this evening either. But that’s okay, because only about three people ever bother reading FPB posts anyhow!
For those three people, though: there’s no new reading material to report – which is no surprise after last week’s bumper crop, though I get the feeling the latest F&SF and Locus should surely be here by now. Actually, that’s a partial untruth, as I got a good handful of late 70s sf paperbacks from the local second-hand book emporium at 50 pence each, including Sheckley’s Mind Swap and an early Bruce Sterling, Involution Ocean.
What else? Oh yeah, I got bounced for that civil service job, but that wasn’t much of a surprise. Still a bit of a disappointment, though. Meh. Also wrestled with the banjaxed wireless router again this afternoon, in accordance with the instructions from ASUS customer support in Taiwan, but still no joy – the thing is bricked, and as I bought from an online supplier I have no recourse to returning it for a replacement. Double meh.
Lest you think I’m in a bad mood, however, let me assure you that I am heartened by the fact that it’s Friday night, and this is my weekend off. It’s not been a great week, but they can’t all be blindingly good. I am content – curry and lager offer fulfilment of a consolatory kind, which I shall head out and embrace forthwith. Have a good weekend, folks.
