US President George W Bush has said too much is at stake in Iraq for politicians to make “false charges” about the reasons for going to war.Amid new questions in Congress about the intelligence used to justify the invasion, he said it was “irresponsible to rewrite history”.
He told US veterans Iraq was now the central front in the “war on terror” and the US would prevail.
An opinion poll suggests less than half Americans support his foreign policy.
Flanked by veterans, Mr Bush was speaking at the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pennsylvania, on Veterans’ Day, a few weeks after the US death toll in Iraq passed the 2,000 mark.
Sheesh…you’ve got to admire his tenacity at least. Dubya is most upset about accusations that his underlings lied about the reasons for ‘liberating’ Iraq. The poll opinions in this story are most unattractive for the man himself…he’s under even more pressure than our Tony B. at the moment. Can you hear my heart weeping from where you are? 😉
It’s risky to make widely public political statements as an absolute no-one like myself, but I’d be very surprised if they don’t move into Iran before they both end their turns of office, on what may well be equally cooked-up and specious grounds. And to all the people I know who think that they can have no effect on UK foreign policy, I heartily recommend you send a brief note to your local MP via this site: FaxYourMP.com. It won’t take five minutes (in fact, much less), and then you’ll have a legitimate excuse to complain about the way your government runs things. Make your voice heard, stand out from the herd…
