Iraq Election Results

Iraq’s Election Results:

Democratic elctions in Iraq; a shining example of peace, freedom and the westernisation of the middle East…if you believe George, Tony and friends. Here’s what the Independent has to say regarding the freshly counted results:

Iraq is disintegrating. The first results from the parliamentary election last week show the country is dividing between Shia, Sunni and Kurdish regions.

Religious fundamentalists now have the upper hand. The secular and nationalist candidate backed by the US and Britain was humiliatingly defeated.

The Shia religious coalition has won a total victory in Baghdad and the south of Iraq. The Sunni Arab parties who openly or covertly support armed resistance to the US are likely to win large majorities in Sunni provinces. The Kurds have already achieved quasi-independence and their voting reflected that.

The election marks the final shipwreck of American and British hopes of establishing a pro-Western secular democracy in a united Iraq.

Well, who’d have thought it? For some curious reason, despite the invasion, the slaughter, and the enforcement of democracy at gunpoint (an oxymoron if there ever was one) *Iraq is still a religiously divided country*! To put it another way, the warmongering and political maneuvering of the last four years has achieved a grand total of sweet F.A., apart from the loss of lives and livelihood of thousands of innocent people. Makes you proud to be a Westerner, doesn’t it? [/irony]

  1. There was an interesting thing the other day. One of the Bushistas was asked what the aim was. He said to provide the government in Iraq with a monopoly on force. Interesting view of what they are trying to achieve, hey?
