Spinrad talking hard, Harrison talking thoughtful, remote control your car via the internet, sf con etiquette guide…
-
1 – YOU are big brother: Control and track your car from the ‘net
“The newest breed of these systems was developed by Inilex, which allows a subscriber/user to do everything from unlock their doors, start their vehicle, sound the alarm, disable the engine or give the location of their ride.”
-
2 – Darpa Wants Talking “Replicator”
“Imagine if the Enterprise’s on-board replicator made walkie-talkies, instead of cups of tea. That’s the latest way-out idea from Darpa, the Pentagon’s blue-sky research arm.”
-
3 – SF Signal interviews Andrew Wheeler
This interview took seven months to complete, apparently, which puts some of mine to shame. It’s certainly a long old chat with the sf lovin’, Itzkoff hatin’ SFBC editor.
-
4 – the absurdity of pretending
“So what is the function of the novelist ? Not to fellate the audience in the hope of delivering a more acceptable product.” M. John Harrison in thoughtful mode (as ever).
-
The dos and don’ts of genre conventions. “Don’t get in an elevator with Harlan Ellison.” They have elevators *that* big in the US?
-
The much-discussed Spinrad column at Asimov’s. I’ll be commenting on this one soon, I think.

hello,
I work for Paulo Coelho’s publisher and I discovered your blog whilst doing my daily duties… which include digging through hundreds of Google searched pages for Paulo related stories.
Seeing as you are interested in his work – I thought you might be interested to know that Paulo has set up a new blog here: http://en.paulocoelhoblog.com/witch-of-portobello/
Hope you get a chance to take a look some time – and maybe pass the link on ?
Many thanks for your time.

Well, thanks for thinking of me, Kate. Though I might point out that, had you read my reference to Mr. Coelho’s work in the previous post, you’d probably realise that I’m not really a fan, per se. Still, the link is there now, eh? Job done, and all that.
