Meanwhile, behind the scenes…

My more astute and observant readers (which is all of you, naturally) may have noticed a slight change here at VCTB today. But just in case you haven’t, I’ll let the cat out of the bag; the site URL structures have changed. Check the headlink link for this post – no date info, no ‘blog’ subdirectory, just the domain followed by the post name.

Big deal‘, I guess most of you are thinking, ‘now shut up and bring the interesting stuff.‘ But for the curious, and those who run their own WP blogs, I’ll explain why I’ve done this. You see, much like a teenage girl getting her first set of make-ups, when I started running on WordPress I was totally putting it on with a trowel, caning all those customisable features like a monkey bending a car-park full of radio aerials. The sense of power and control after using the clunky Blogger system for ages was almost sexual. Well, not sexual, but you know what I mean. I hope. Erm…

Yeah, so, anyway, was running the fully-customised link structure without realising one crucial thing – it was a terrible move from an SEO point of view, and in hindsight may explain why my links listings in Technorati always contained a load of my own posts as well as other sites linking in. Bah. Well, there’s the amateur learning curve for you. I’ve always maintained that humans only ever learn things the hard way; I believe this has demonstrated the truth of this statement, at least when applied to myself.

So, if any of you notice any broken internal links, please let me know, if you’d be so kind. I shall try to hunt and fix them this weekend, but I’m sure to miss a few. Meh.

Normal service is resumed. Now, I wonder if Newsgator is running OK today…

  1. I’ve been kicking myself slighty over choosing Blogger, especialy seeing as 80% of the time I can’t upload images.
