It’s a weird world we live in, isn’t it? Donald Rumsfeld today called for a 24-hour propaganda machine to make sure the US and the West don’t lose the battle for the hearts and minds of Muslims. To quote the BBC article:
In a speech to the Council of Foreign Relations, Mr Rumsfeld said some of the US’ most critical battles were now in the “newsrooms”.
“Our enemies have skilfully adapted to fighting wars in today’s media age, but… our country has not,” he said.
Mr Rumsfeld said al-Qaeda and other Islamic extremists were bombarding Muslims with negative images of the West, which had poisoned the public view of the US.
Gee, d’you think? Feel free to label me as a rampant lefty moonbat sympathiser here (because, after all, I am one) but maybe if the US administration (and those of other Western governments, my own included) tried really hard to give the fundamentalist Muslim regimes less ammunition (in the form of blatantly oppressive and manipulatory actions), maybe they wouldn’t have so much sticky mud to throw? It’s no wonder at all that media-fed Muslims believe the West is out to get them. Every chance they get, our leaders go about proving it many times over.
