Towards mobile-free libraries…

Posted by Paul Raven @ 01-03-2006 in Technology

I work in a library. One of my pet hates is the perennial loud ignorant mobile phone user who, despite plenty of signage forbidding it, will fill the room with a crass ringtone and one half of a loud (and often surprisingly personal) conversation.

Thanks to a company called NaturalNano, this could become an easy thing to prevent. They have developed a special paint which has copper-filled carbon nanotubes suspended in it, which they claim will act as an effective barrier to mobile phone signals. Not just good news for us bookworms; this could prevent the same rudenesses occuring in cinemas, theatres, buses, anywhere. Silence is a commodity you don’t miss until it’s gone. Here at last is a chance to claw some of it back! :)
