I’m doing my best to ignore UK political news, first and foremost because the broad sweep of where it’s going (i.e. nowhere) has been clear for a good year or so, but also because, as a member of the British diaspora, the day-to-day detail is irrelevant to me.
(Apologies, if that seems crass, to those of you still living there—but that’s how it feels. There are plenty of locally specific political and economic problems for me to be going on with, and I’m reserving my bandwidth for them.)
However, while I may be ignoring UK politics, I never ignore the synchronicitous messaging of this happenstance universe. And this morning the FT‘s RSS feed showed me the following two headlines next to one another, in this order:
- Starmer to meet Meloni for advice on tackling small-boat migration
- Italy retains allure for rich Europeans fleeing higher taxes
Meet the new boss, eh?
