Been a long time since I linked an XKCD, but still:

I’m framing this as I am because it’s an important issue in a client project I’m working on.
For the avoidance of confusion (and hatemail): the point is not at all “lol, science whut”. The point is rather that scientific knowledge is a moving target, and the decades of selling it as perpetual certainty at the tail end of the previous century have not done science—nor the policy which one would hope science would be well-placed to inform—any favours at all.
